Georgia registered nurses

Verify a Georgia RN through the Georgia Board of Nursing’s official license search, then check the nurse’s identity, active status, expiration and any restrictions. For multistate practice, also confirm the license’s compact status and the authority to practice in Georgia.

ContentsWhat to record

What should your team record?

Start at the Georgia Board of Nursing’s official license search1. Keep the license number, issuing board, status, expiration date, source URL and the time you checked. Match the record to the applicant before accepting it. A similar name is a reason to investigate, not proof of identity.

Keep the source result separate from your organization’s decision. A license record does not establish employment eligibility, required training or completion of your onboarding work.

When does a Georgia RN renew?

The Georgia Board of Nursing says RNs renew every 2 years, with renewal due January 31 of the expiration year2. Use the expiration date on the individual license. Do not infer it from another nurse’s record.

Put the next check on the same work list as other requirements. When a record changes, give the exception a named owner and keep the earlier result so the change is traceable.

What changes when the nurse holds a compact license?

A multistate license is different from a single-state license issued by a compact state. Check the issuing state’s record and multistate status3. A change in the nurse’s primary state of residence calls for a separate compact review.

Use our Georgia compact guide for that branch of the workflow. Keep RN and LPN records distinct, even when the same organization hires both. Make the source check a clear handoff: evidence, owner and next action.

Questions

Can a résumé prove an RN license is active?

No. Use the current official record and match it to the applicant. A résumé supplies information to check.

Does a Georgia license automatically cover other states?

No. Confirm multistate status. A single-state license and a multistate license are different.

Should we keep a screenshot?

Keep the source, timestamp and result in the record format your policy requires. A later screenshot must not overwrite the history of an earlier check.

What if the search returns no match?

Recheck the license number and name with the applicant, then follow up with the board. Keep the requirement unresolved until the identity and record are established.
